Welcome back to Term 2

The students in Room 30 are settling back into their daily class routines nicely after a staggered start to Term 2. It is wonderful to see the students back and ready to learn. This week we returned to working in our Kagan groups and created new home teams. The children are enjoying working with their new team members sharing their knowledge and supporting each other in their learning.

In Literacy, we have been using adjectives to describe nouns and compare objects. In Week 5, we will be learning about adverbs and how we can use them to describe verbs. We are continuing to build our knowledge of blends, vowels and consonants. In all our writing activities, we are focusing on improving our letter formation and presentation skills.

In Numeracy, we are focusing on understanding length and comparing the length of objects, as well as adding and subtracting. Students are consolidating the speed and fluency with the following mental strategies to solve problems:
•    skip counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s forward and back from any number
•    counting on and counting back
•    odd and even numbers

Reading books, spelling words and sight words are coming home weekly, along with activities to practice skills covered in class.  Please sign the Practice Time work before returning it each Monday.

We are talking about resilience this term. We have met Bounce Back Bear, who is helping the students to learn what to do when they experience conflict with friends. We are also learning how to cope when feeling different emotions.

Days to Remember:
Library Day is Thursday – please return your books on Wednesday.
No Throw Tuesday – please remember to bring a rubbish free lunch box to school.
Practice Time – Due each Monday

If you have any queries, please email me or phone the school and leave a message for me to give you a call.
I look forward to an exciting Term 2.

Kind regards,
Mrs Kee
