Week 4 - Update

The term is flying by and it is Week 4 already!!!! The students have settled nicely into routines and are creating some amazing work.

Literacy

In Literacy, we are writing narratives. You will have noticed Talk Homework appearing on the class blog every Tuesday. We have our Big Write lesson on a Wednesday, so it is important that you talk about the homework with your child Tuesday night.

Students have been learning how to begin a narrative by creating an orientation (setting):

Who is in the story?

When and where does the story happen?

Students are encouraged to use adjectives to describe the characters and places to make their story as interesting to read as possible. We call these our WOW words.

This week we are discussing how to create the middle of a story. We are starting with -

What is the problem?

The series of events that happen to solve the problem.

The remainder of the term we will look at -  How is the problem resolved?

Please see me if you have any questions regarding this.

 Numeracy

In mathematics lessons we are:

  • adding and subtracting with bigger numbers up to 40
  • Time to the hour and half hour
  • Calendar
  • Graphing information

 Health

In Health, we are learning about medicines and warning symbols on packaging. Your child may ask for any empty medication containers so we can look at the warning labels. This topic includes poisonous substances, such as cleaning products, as well so please point out any CAUTION labels you may see on products at home and in the shops.

 Geography

We are learning about features of our environment in Geography. Some features like rocks and mountains occur naturally, some are constructed by people such as buildings and some are managed such as beaches. Encourage your child to talk about how features of their environment may be created as you go for a walk or a drive.

 Science

Science has us looking at insects and other invertebrates as part of biological science. We have spoken about not touching insects they see as they may bite, but they certainly are interested in a close up look at everything wriggly and crawly at the moment so don’t be surprised if the suddenly want to show you the spider in the garden!

This term is our Cross Country and Faction Athletics Carnival. The students have been practising and are getting fitter every day. Please keep your eye on the calendar for these events.

 Other Teachers

The students spend the following times with other teachers:

Monday – Music – Mr Honey

Tuesday – Art – Mrs Agar

Wednesday - Sport – Mrs Oliver

Thursday – Italian – Mrs Isaiah and Library – Mrs Pomatti

Practice Time Folders are now to be returned on a Friday, and they will stay at school until Monday.

I hope you have a lovely term.

Kind regards,

Kylie Kee
